Knowledge Exchange and Expertise

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) can help your business to innovate and grow.

KTPs are a leading programme from Innovate UK that brings together a company, an academic team and high calibre graduate, known as an Associate, to work on an innovative project. Improve your competitiveness and productivity, through better access to research, technology and skills.

12-36 months is the average length of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project.

70% of Associates are offered a permanent job by the company, when the project ends.

Planning for Uncertainty in Offshore Wind

With a £45,000 grant from EPSRC IAA (Impact Acceleration Account) we employed a post-doctoral academic to work on a secondment basis with our partner Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult, developing prototype software.

Research collaboration with Intelligent Gels Ltd

Intelligent Gels is a SME in the North East. This business creates novel and innovative solutions using gel chemistry. Matt Wilson, the Managing Director successfully applied to be part of the ERDF Intensive Industrial Innovation Programme.

The Intensive Industrial Innovation Programme (IIIP) is supporting Northern Accelerator spin out Atelerix to work with Newcastle University PhD student Anastassia Kostenko.

Hart Biologicals: bacteria modification to produce compounds for blood testing

The Intensive Industrial Innovation Programme (IIIP) is supporting Hart Biologicals to work with Teesside University PhD student Lucy Butler. Lucy is working on a project to modify bacteria to produce a compound used in blood testing.

Magnitude Biosciences: preventing degenerative diseases

The Intensive Industrial Innovation Programme (IIIP) is supporting Magnitude Biosciences to work with PhD student Giulia Zavagno. Giulia is working on a project to screen for compounds to help with the prevention of degenerative diseases.

Cievert: using data to improve patient diagnosis

The Intensive Industrial Innovation Programme (IIIP) is supporting Cievert to work with PhD student Matthew Watson to analyse NHS data. Using computer algorithms and machine learning Matthew's project helps improve patient diagnosis.
